ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.
*****************************************************************************

Arizona Science Center proposes the presentation of a session on how to
develop and utilize leadership volunteers to expand an institution's
capacity and reach.

Many science centers and museums have a corps of volunteers who help the
institution in any number of ways, including greeting visitors,
presenting activities, providing clerical assistance and much more.

How can a science center create opportunities for volunteers to develop
as leaders, and how can an organization use those leadership volunteers
to increase its capacity to serve its audience?

Arizona Science Center hopes to feature its Friends of Science and
Technology Education (FOSTE) program, a corps of 20+ volunteers ages 50
and older who have backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, math
and teaching. Since the program's inception two years ago, FOSTE
volunteers hae been instrumental in providing a significant amount of
content for the Science Center's galleries and programs, having
developed more than 55 demonstrations, activities and exhibits.

For its part of the presentation, Arizona Science Center anticipates
including its volunteer coordinator, at least one of its FOSTE
volunteers and possibly the program funder.

We are seeking a partner institution, preferably another science center
participating in the 2010 ASTC conference, with a leadership volunteer
program to co-present this session.

We expect this 75-minute session to run as follows:

10-15 minutes Arizona Science Center volunteer
program overview

            10-15 minutes Partner institution volunteer
program overview

            15-20 minutes General Q & A

            30 minutes (or

Remainder of time) Break-out table discussions

                                                One presenter goes to
each table for a tale discussion, at which

                                                Attendees may ask
questions and brainstorm on new ideas
