ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

One of the bits of wisdom I've learned over the years is to manage expectations, and insure that all departments within your institution are in synch. Here's an example: a major corporation is interested in underwriting an exhibit in a really big way (creating quivers of excitement among the Development Officers...!) In exchange, or as an added string, the corporation expects to display it's wares, so to speak, in the lobby of your building. You need to have serious conversations with Development to make sure that you are all in agreement about your response (this actually happened, a car company underwrote a program and expected that they could put a car in the lobby. Development let them although it had NOTHING to do with the exhibit content). Is it appropriate? Is it selling out? What is the difference between a presence and shilling? And then there's a question about size of signage and who gets to call the shots on top (or ANY) billing. That's just some of what your guidelines should address.
