NSDL Web Seminar: Energy and the Polar Environment
http://learningcenter.nsta.org/products/symposia_seminars/NSDL3/Webseminar3.aspx
Thursday, November 13th
6:30pm-8:00pm Eastern

The Polar Regions provide an interesting real-world context for the study
of energy: intense seasonal fluctuations in the amount of solar radiation
and heat, and the albedo (reflectivity) of the ice caps. Climate change
and the declining sea ice of the Arctic are changing the energy balance of
this region.

In this seminar, we’ll explore the concept of energy as it relates to the
Arctic and Antarctic regions. We’ll share content resources, lesson plans,
and children’s literature from the Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears
cyberzine (including ones developed by staff at COSI) designed to help you
integrate hands-on science instruction with reading strategies and other
literacy skills.

Join Jessica Fries-Gaither, Project Director and Elementary Resource
Specialist for the Ohio Resource Center, and Dr. Carol Landis, Education
Coordinator at the Byrd Polar Research Center for this seminar designed
for K-5 educators with many materials adaptable at all grade levels.
