Wendy,

If you are describing a fossil dig exhibit, you probably want to use a
paraffin, sand and small gravel mix. We use this in our small fossil dig
exhibit. I can't remember the recipe off the top of my head, but can find it
for you. Be careful melting the paraffin; you'll need to use a double-boiler
to melt it so it doesn't combust. Also, too much paraffin makes it difficult
to dig.

Dear resourceful listserv members,

Can someone send me a recipe for a plaster of paris/sand matrix to use
in our investigation cart "fossil dig"? The previous education director
developed this fun activity but did not leave the recipe for the matrix
(at least in all the places I looked). At present our fossils have
already been "dug" so we need to freshen up and re-bury our fossils.

Thanks,
Wendy
