You might want to contact the Geysers Geothermal Visitors Center, run by
CalPine. It is in northern California, and the whole center is dedicated
to understanding geothermal energy. It is not terribly interactive or
open-ended. But it would be a great starting point. And it has some
kid-oriented videos, and a cool working model that shows you how the
power plants work.
