I deeply apologize for the misinformation. My original post was
rejected for being too long and in the editing process I made a
terrible, terrible mistake. Yes there are MA programs in museum
studies. In the original post I made the point that MANY museum
studies are certificate programs. I made the example of the
University of Delaware in the longer post which works cooperatively
with Winterthur, Hagley, and Longwood Gardens to give fellows in
those programs a certificate in Museum Studies, but the MA is in
something else. In the case of Winterthur it is Early American
Studies. (One can get a Masters in Conservation Science [art not
environment] at Winterthur, but I don't think that is what we are
talking about)
Of course there are Museum Studies programs that award stand alone
degrees. Those may even be in the majority for all I know. My point
was simply to illustrate the difference between certificate as an
academic recognition and certification as a licensing procedure.
