The email was rejected from the listserv due to the attached images. So, I'm sending the written info to the listserv. If you want copies of the images, get with me end of next week at the earliest. If you want them earlier, it'll cost you a bottle of 21-year Balvenie Portwood.

Subject: RE: artifact magnifiers

Hi Charity. A number of years ago, I went to a local gun show to purchase some magnifiers for our tabletop/cart activities. Apparently, these magifying glasses are used by gun people to prepare ammunition or work on fixing and cleaning their guns. I was the only science geek there purchasing them for museum use. Pretty inexpensive (maybe $15-20?) and fairly hardy.

I don't know the name of the company that actually makes them; it's not on the magifier. The lens is about a 4" diameter. It sits in a black plastic frame that has three sections. When not in use, it folds completely flat. When you want to use it, you unfold the three sections so it stands up, about 7.5" tall, and you can place your specimen in the open space between the three sections.

I have attached some photos for you to look at and bring to a local gunshop. Rotate the lens1 and lens2 images clockwise since I held the camera sideways so I wouldn't slam my head into the corner of my desk.

If the images don't pass through the listserv contact me *next week after Wednesday the 1st* and I'll forward them to you individually. Any requests before then will be ignored and deleted. Sorry; too busy with projects to deal with individual requests.

We are trying to find magnifiers that would slide in front of 2-d maps
in artifact cases in order to view them more easily. We need them to be
durable, movable, child-friendly and artifact-friendly.

We have found a brand called "Magnislides," but wondered if there other,
more cost-effective solutions out there? Any recommendations? Have you
seen anything like this used in another exhibit or museum?

Thank you,
