We have never had an issue with having to protect touch screens. User
controls and buttons on our touch screens have had to be covered to
prevent tampering with settings but the screens themselves have been
left alone.

We have had to protect Large LCD screens (30" and up) with Lexan or
other acrylic sheeting but they were not touch screens. Although I have
never tested the idea out I wouldn't think the plastic would allow the
touch screen to operate properly but you could experiment with small
samples of various thicknesses to see.

Good Luck!

Have any of you had the need to protect touch screens from
physical damage? How have you done this? Is there a thickness of
Lexan that will protect but still allow the touch scree to function,
for example?

Could you pass this on to colleagues who are responsible for exhibit
maintenance and protection? Thanks.

Martin
