The polarizers may not work as expected because of the LCD chips in the projector. I think each color has different polarization, so they may not dim up and down evenly.

also, the high temperatures at which halogens operate are designed to sustain the reaction between the gas in the lamp and the filament. Reducing the temperature slightly may cause the filament boil-off to go on unabated - and actually shorten the life of the bulb.

Thanks for this David.

At the moment we use a neutral density filter as a quick fix, but I wanted
the increased bulb life too.

I'm probably going to hack one apart soon but I just hoped for the
reassurance that someone else had gone in there first.
