I guess women are still pretty much left to care for and feed babies, but the
decisions they make are constrained in many ways.  I would say it is *at least*
6,000 years since western societies have had agendas which encouraged women not
to breastfeed, to curtail breastfeeding and to supplement breastfeeding earlier
rather than later.  (I know:  this is a sweeping statement -- the picture might
be different in places and at times -- but I think it helps to know the kind of
timescale we are dealing with here.)  Henri Nestle was treading a well-worn
path.
