I recently have a friend who became a licensed day care provider. She was required to take a first aid class with the Red Cross. In this class it was taught that the day care providers should wear gloves when handling breastmilk because of the risk of Aids. If what I understand, you cannot contract Aids through contact with breastmilk. Besides being very concerning that this is being taught by a respected authority is that many day care providers are choosing not to accept breastfed children in their care. Many do not accept breastfed children because of the hassle with being unable to microwave bottles of breastmilk, but with the supposed danger of aids more providers are choosing not to accept bf'd babies. Please correct me if I am wrong on this assumption. Oh, just one small comment on the case in Eugene. What is so upsetting to me is that the parents have done much research on the issue of HIV and related topics in order to make what they felt was an informed decision. If the parents had no clue as to why they were making the decisions they made, I might feel differently. I have chosen not to immunize my son at this time. It was a hard decision made with much research. It is very scarry in that I can see some of the same types of arguments being made about my decisions...
