I just got my new Lawrence, so am using it: On Streptococcus (Group B) she has a chart on Page 883 in which she says " Yes,[to breastfeeding] (after 24 hours of oeffective therapy); for perinatal exposure, high risk, or suspected illness, infant is given empiric therapy." If the babies had been breastfeeding prior to the discovery of this infection and as the treatment is Penicillin and ampicillin, I question the need for weaning for 24 hours. However, as the twins had not been breastfeeding the situation is different - I am interested in others' views on this. In fact, on Streptococcus (Group A) she also says breastfeeding can continue "24 hours after beginning appropriate tharapy; discard breast milk for 24 hours."
