Any bleeding in the first 8 weeks postpartum doesn't count as a period.
Going back to the Consensus Statement:
"The consensus was that the maximum birth spacing effect of breastfeeding
is achieved when a mother 'fully' or nearly fully breastfeeds and remains
amenorrheic (bleeding before the 56th postpartum day being ignored)...."
(The Lancet, 19 Nov 1988, 1204-1205)
Bleeding at 6 or 8 weeks is not uncommon, and usually does NOT herald the
onset of regular periods (of course there are exceptions!).
