Has anyone heard any complaints with regards to fenugreek? I recommended it to a mom who is pumping and after a week of taking the capsules TID she started experiencing difficulty sleeping at night and anxious feelings. She stopped the fenugreek but the next day the sx were still there. In Hale's book he describes side effects to include: dyspnea (exaggeration of asthmatic symptoms). Would this be similiar to the side effects one can get from Terbutaline (Brethine)? Now just a little back ground on this mom. During pregnancy the dx of diaphragmatic hernia was made. It was a very large hernia, the parents were aware of the risks and proceeded with the preg. The little girl was born late Sept and had surg right away, then placed on a heart/lung machine for a week or so, she weaned to O2 then room air. Her first po intake was by bottle of EBM and did not tolerate. She has no lung on the left and had severe problems with reflux. Mom was assisted with attempts with breastfeeding but the baby tired easily and basically was Gavage feed. She went back to surg in early Nov for a permanent GT placement and tightening of the stomach sphincter. She went home late Nov breastfeeding 3x day and GT feedings during the night. She does nurse fairly well but her wt was not doing well so she now receives GT feeds after each brfdg. Mom had pumped and had a hugh supple, her milk is given in the tube along with a fortifier to bring it up to now 32 CAL. Mom now tries to pump during the day but her supple is falling. The GT will have to be in place for at least a year. The little girl is now 4 months and just reached 10lb. I am working with mom on pumping but can't push her too much, since she seems so overwhelmed with the baby's care. Mom has been Rx Klonopin (Clonazepam) which she has taken in the past. We hope this will help her through the night and she will feel better drung the day. I am trying to get this baby evaluated by an oral/speech therapist. Sorry this is so long. Ann Perry RN IBCLC
