I am a health educator doing some revisions on a breast feeding education
program. I would appreciate your expertise regarding the following issues.
If possible, I would also appreciate the resources used (journal or periodical
references) that lead you to take a particular position.

1) What are the best ways to prevent and treat sore nipples? Are short,
frequent feedings (5 mins each side every 1 1/2 hours) EVER recommended? Why
or why not? Is it best to nurse on the side that isn't sore first? Why or why
not?

2) Is it recommended to nurse on both breasts during each feeding? Why or
why not?

3) What is the latest recommendation concerning how long and how often a baby
should be nursed? e.g., nurse only on demand, nurse 10-20 minutes on each
side every 3-4 hours,...

4) Specifically, what does " nursing on demand mean"?

5) In order to avoid nipple confusion, at what age is it alright to offer a
baby breast milk from a bottle?

6) When are growth spurts most common? What are the current recommendations
to deal with them?

7) Is it recommended to consume many dairy products while nursing? What is
the ideal nursing mothers diet?

8) How long can breast milk be stored in the refrigerator? In the freezer?

9) What is the best way to thaw and warm breast milk?

Thank you for your time.
