What we need to remember is the subject was stupid/dumb things SAID not that the persons saying them were stupid/dumb! I believe that most of us make a distinction between statements that leave much to be desired (is it founded on supportive documentation/research?) and those persons who have not yet benefited from a more complete understanding of the lactation process. If a person assumes that THEY are being attacked, that is unfortunate, but unintended (in most cases). However, identifying such inappropriate statements for what they are can only sensitize all of us re: what research NEEDS to be done in order to substantiate and support breastfeeding as the normative infant feeding form. We attack the statement, not the person making it.... mailto:[log in to unmask] "We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations." Kathleen G.
