Regarding teaching children, pre-teens and teenagers about breastfeeding:

Earlier this month I spoke to a sixth grade (11 and 12 year olds, both boys
and girls) science class about "Child Development" as part of their Human
Development curriculum. The teacher happens to be 8.75 months pregnant,
unless she has delivered by now, and she used her pregnancy during the year
to educate the kids on prenatal development and such tidbits like eating
right and not taking drugs or smoking, both during pregnancy and always. So
the students already had a LOT of information about keeping healthy. I spoke
for 40 minutes on breastfeeding and 10 minutes on infant development. The
kids were wonderful- after my listing and (their contributing) some of the
infinite reasons to breastfeed, by themselves, they spontaneously said "So
why would anyone want to bottle feed?"

Interestingly enough, I asked at the beginning of the class how many of them
thought or knew they had breast fed- probably about 85% raised their hands.
If they continue to hear these messages, I am hoping that when they have
kids, there will be no discussion about how to feed the baby- breastfeeding
will be the only option.
