I have a general question regarding breastmilk iron and its availability
once the baby begins to eat other foods. My understanding was that baby
cereal that is iron fortified interferred with breastmilk iron absorption
because of the type of iron in the cereal. However someone mentioned
recently on Lactnet (I thought) that other foods with naturally occurring
iron could also do this. Did I get this right? Does for example meat
interfer with the absorption of breast milk iron?

Since I learned re: commercial cereals interferring I have been advising
moms to avoid this type of cereal and instead go to non iron fortified
ones. (Hard to find in London and usually only at health food stores and
expensive to boot).

If all foods that are iron rich interfere then I think my advice would change.

Any references to articles I could read? Thanks
