My friends, I am currently engaged in an effort (fight) to remove all soy-based formula from our medical center--if I can accomplish this; the other centers in the Southern California Region will follow suit. (As our HMO goes so goes the competition, so this action could have strong effects in the community). This is an extreamly important project. I have the full support of the medical director in charge of the breastfeeding projects in all our centers. But I need you help. I have the two references on the phytoestrogens from New Zealand and some on the use of soy for menopausal symptoms from a medline search. I cannot get the actual articles only abstracts. Pediatrics remains unconviced that phytoestrogens is a sufficient reason without seeing the articles. And I quote: "We don't to appear like we are reacting to media hype." I cannot get the actual articles only abstracts. Does anyone out there have the articles? I am also looking for a reference specific to juvenile IDDM and soy-based formula. One hospital recently banned soy formula based on an article that specifically implicated soy-based formula and SMA-24 in early onset IDDM. Do you know what the article is or better yet do you have it? Do you have an abstract of it so I can find it? If you have anything please send it my way. The sooner I can put this all together the sooner that stuff will be off the shelves! I thank you and the children will thank us Marie Davis [log in to unmask]
