Greetings,

I am Laura Duckett and have been on the faculty at the University
of Minnesota for a long time (since 1977). Prior to that I was on the
faculty at the U. of Md. and was also a childbirth/breastfeeding
educator with CEA of the DC Metro Area. Before that I spent some
time as a hospital OB/newborn/NB special care nurse. As you may
have guessed, my clinical specialty is family-child nursing.

The oldest of my two breastfed children just had her 26th birthday
yesterday and her brother is 23 - both have graduated from college and
entered the work world. They live in Boston and Chicago, respectively.
The youngest of my two stepsons lives nearby and his wife is nursing
their second daughter, a 3 1/2 month old, and has been back at work
for over a month.

For years, my clinical research has been in the area of breastfeeding
and working. The most recent study included over 600 women from Mpls.
- St. Paul area. Just 180 of these women were homemakers; the rest
worked full- or part-time.

I have enjoyed reading messages for a while. It's really interesting
when people indicate their location along with their signature.
Lactnet was/is a great idea!

Laura
