My Mother grew up on a farm prior to 1930 near Stratford Ontario about 70 miles from here. She always told us that if the gap at the bottom of a door was 3/8” or more, a mouse could run through the gap so every space had to be 1/4” or smaller to stop mice from moving from room to room or drawer to drawer. Stratford is in the lee of Lake Huron so snow plows were generally useless so large snow plowers powered by tractors were used to clear country roads open.. All this knowledge was passed to us during the season end closing of the family cottage during the 50s
