Hello all, I wonder if any of you have seen a recent uptick in the insertion of IUD with levonorgestrel (synthetic progesterone isn't it? Its Mirena or equivalent). BEFORE hospital discharge? I was privvy to a discussion recently between CNMs and mother-baby staff regarding beginning a policy of inserting MIRENA IUDs right after birth, within minutes. I wondered if any of you have any peer reviewed journal articles at the ready you could send links to regarding the affect this might have on milk supply? I checked in Hale 2014 (I don't have the 2017 yet) and it is not contraindicated but he refers to insertion at 5-6 weeks postpartum, not immediate insertion. The archives do have numerous mini-discussions of this, but most appear to be anecdotal case stories. Thanks in advance, LjBerkeley on the Border with Mexico *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html To reach list owners: [log in to unmask] Mail all list management commands to: [log in to unmask] COMMANDS: 1.
