Hi all,

Bronchiolitis (RSV infection) season is in full swing here, and sadly it is
a time when many babies are weaned. When they are hospitalized, staff
insist that breastfeeding is much more difficult for the baby than
bottlefeeding, and moms are instructed to not put baby on the breast but
rather to use the bottle. Since pumping is not usually encouraged, many
babies are unwillingly weaned.

Since I am in an out-of-the-hospital setting, there is not much I can do
except send information to pediatricians.
I know that breastfeeding is associated with a lower risk of RSV
hospitalization and with a lower incidence of RSV infection during the
first year of life. BUT I have not found any studies about oxigen
saturation in babies with bronchiolitis breastfeeding vs bottlefeeding.
Anyone know of any, or anything of the kind? Or any of you that work in
hospitals have any protocols on this? Of why it is better to breastfeed
than to bottlefeed WHILE going thru bronchiolitis?

Thank you so much,
Kika
