I was in a casual conversation with one of my daughter's friend's mom the
other day. We were discussing what we did for a living and when I mentioned
that I was a new IBCLC, she told me she was so happy her third child was
nearing 6 months so she could wean because the baby's tongue-tie had never
released. Before pouncing on the "no need to stop at 6 months" - I asked
what she meant by the tongue never releasing... "did they have a frenotomy
done that was ineffective??" She replied that they had not had it seen by
anyone.. that both of her other children had had tongue ties that had
simply "ripped" (her words) and self-released. She assumed that it would
happen with this child, too.

Has anyone heard of a tongue-tie self-releasing before?

God bless this mother who nursed this baby through the pain for 5 1/2
months. She said she is not interested in having it clipped at this point.
The baby was not with her at the time of our conversation, so I didn't
have a chance to see the severity of the tie (and, like I said, this wasn't
a consult situation anyway).
