Ginger has described a frustrating problem that many WIC agencies find themselves trying to deal with. One way to handle the lack of IBCLC services in this situation is to use the electronic media. A WIC office can have a webcam, Skype capability, etc, whereby a mother and baby with a breastfeeding problem sits in front of the computer and camera, and the consultation is done by an IBCLC with the same electronic capability at her end. She sees the mother remotely, has the ability to observe and speak with the mother, just cannot touch! This is being done very successfully in the Houston area. The IBCLC can work on contract with the WIC agency.
