Susan, that was a great summary of your teaching methods, thanks. I get so exasperated with "methods" but I think your statement below is part of what frustrates me...that parents are so often looking for *the* answer, when in reality they can only find their own answer. I do think that there are far too many "experts" who take advantage of that. I believe that the more parents can surrender to the idea that the baby is the leader and not some guru, the more empowered they will become and, ultimately, the more successful they will be. I think your approach is great because it gives them what they want (ANSWERS), but still promotes biological normalcy and puts the power in their court. Best, Gina Parents want methods because they need a framework. When they bring up the > latest greatest method, I always ask for specifics and then talk them > through how that method has already been tried by parents and then take them > through the particulars of their own situation and whether components of > that method will be helpful or harmful as I work with them to develop their > own individually tailored plan. Perhaps now, I may start telling them that > we're developing their own individually tailored "method". > > -- Gina Gerboth, CPM, IBCLC Safe Passage Birth and Breastfeeding Services Pueblo, Colorado www.safepassagebirth.com 719-369-4368 *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html To reach list owners: [log in to unmask] Mail all list management commands to: [log in to unmask] COMMANDS: 1.
