Susan, This seems an easy question "how long can a healthy term baby go before supplementation is medically indicated?" But I don't think it is so easily answered. The key phrase in your post, to me, was "infant has not yet breastfed since birth." In that case, if staff and doctors and probably mother are uncomfortable and worried, how about expressing some colostrum and giving that to baby via spoon or dropper? I'm assuming baby is skin to skin this whole time, because you say the staff are getting better at that. I'm sure others will post on decision trees, and hypoglycemia protocols etc, which I don't have at hand. Congratulations on the progress you are making!
