Dear Colleagues: I am interested in an article published in November/December CPJ/ RPC entitled "Maternal Codeine is not safe for all breast-fed infants" articlehttp://www.pharmacists.ca/content/cpjpdfs/nov_dec06/SafetyFirst_Mad adi.pdf The article relates to mothers who are ultra rapid metabolizers of cytochrome 2D6 and who for whom codeine rapidly metabolizes into morphine. I understand the Canadian Family Physcian Conference will focus on the question of codeine postpartum use during the 2007 fall conference. I am interested in comments. I am especially interested in Jack Newman and Tom Hale's comments regarding this issue.
