It may well be that the piercing has allowed for faster flow of milk, but I doubt it *caused* an overactive milk ejection reflex. This mom might benefit from positioning that keeps baby "up and over" the breast, so milk has to "fight gravity." Other tips: A nipple shield may contain the flow a bit. Mom can pop baby off during the first forceul let-down. Mom can depress her breast near the areola when the first fast flow occurs.
