My name is Kerry Omdahl. I am currently a nursing student at the University of North Dakota. I have been researching the care of mastitis in breastfeeding mothers. In my research I found that Wambach (2003) describes in her study that continuation of breastfeeding, warm showers, and the use of cabbage leaves combined with antibiotics, such as dicloxacillin, were very effective in treating mastitis. In another article I researched, Kvist, Larsson, Hall-Lord, and Rydhstroem (2004) studied the effects of acupuncture and care interventions in which they found that there were no significant differences between the groups. Also, Chetwynd, Ives, Payne, and Edens-Bartholomew (2002) describe the treatment of candidal mastitis with the use of fluconazole for mother and infant as a safe and effective treatment choice for recurrent or persistent cases. I have experienced the pain and frustration of mastitis while breastfeeding. “What have you found that has worked for the care of mastitis in breastfeeding mothers?” Kerry Omdahl RN, BSN student University of North Dakota [log in to unmask] Reference List: Chetwynd, E., Ives, T., Payne, P., and Edens-Bartholomew, N.
