Paget's disease is a form of breast cancer presenting as you described, although I don't think it is usually painful and also is usually unilateral in its presentation. Hi Laurie...my Paget's disease of the nipple was painful and the direct cause of my ceasing to pump or nurse on that side after the birth of my son two years ago. When a photo of this nipple was shown at last summer's ILCA conference it caused a stir....such that I think the L.C.'s at the session were startled to find out what it was (cancerous and removed)....so, I suggest that it may present more as candida, or other infections (for which I received treatment for, and sometimes it seemed to make it less painful for a bit- and then it would get worse again). Now I say, "if you hear hoofbeats, it might be horses, but rule out the zebra too."
