I saw an 8 day old baby today who really liked finger fdg. Thrusted and
drew back his tongue a lot. Five oz. below birth wt, five oz above
discharge wt. I praised mom for following the #1 rule and FEEDING HER
BABY. He did not sustain a latch onto breast, so we tried a nipple
shield. He fussed and freaked over the shield, so we finger fed a few
ccs to calm him. He finally latched with the shield, finally did
rhythmic, sustained sucking with sns added. Mom has history of breast
reduction and milk supply is low.

I believe this baby would take to any alternative fdg. method. He'll
go where the food is.

Plan: Promote and protect milk supply with frequent pumping. Practice
breastfdg a lot, supplement 2-3 oz fdgs most or all fdgs. Talk to Dr.
tomorrow about reglan.
