Happy New Year to everyone on this list. I wanted to take a quick moment to bring the disaster in Asia to our minds...as we move into the New Year. As we head into our individual New Years plans and reflections I just wanted to offer a list of some organizations that are organizing relief. There are many other organizations working on disaster relief. Here's some links to consider: American Friends Service Committee http://www.afsc.org/ Building on AFSC programs and contacts in Asia, AFSC will help provide relief and longer-term recovery, particularly to those who might be overlooked by other agencies or relief programs. Network for Good http://www.networkforgood.org/topics/international/earthquake/ tsunami122604.aspx People across Southeast Asia who have been stricken by the tsunami disaster need your help to recover and rebuild -- many have lost everything. Please join millions of other generous Americans and support one or many of the important relief organizations (on their web site) with a safe and easy contribution now. Your cash contributions are desperately needed and will provide assistance to those whose lives have been devastated by this terrible disaster. International Red Cross/Red Crescent http://www.ifrc.org/ The International Federation has launched an appeal for 67 million Swiss francs to help victims of the devastating tidal waves that hit south and east Asia on December 26 -- its largest emergency operation in decades. The disaster left at least 130,000 people dead, hundreds of thousands injured, and more than one million displaced. UNICEF http://www.unicefusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=duLRI8O0H&b=25933 Tsunami Crisis: Help UNICEF Respond. Hundreds of thousands of children are at risk from the tsunamis that devastated coastal regions across South Asia on December 26. Oxfam https://secure.ga3.org/02/asia_earthquake04 Oxfam and its partners responded immediately by distributing food, temporary shelter, and clean water in Sri Lanka. In Indonesia, we will soon be providing much-needed water and sanitation. Oxfam teams are busy assessing needs in India and other countries affected. AmeriCares <<https://www.americaresfoundation.net/donate/default.aspx? id=South%20Asia%20Earthquake%20Relief%20Fund>> AmeriCares is preparing emergency relief flights that will focus on bringing medicines and medical supplies, water purification treatments, and other types of assistance to the affected areas.
