Hello, Mary. A year ago, I was contacted by a mother who had previously attended LLL meetings with her baby. The baby had self-weaned at 12 months, much to the mother's dismay. Baby was 21 mos old when mom contacted me, and in those 9 months, baby had never been free of ear infection for more than 2 weeks in a row. Baby's pediatrician insisted that mom relactate (what an enlightened doctor!) to help ease the ear infections, because doc was afraid that baby would suffer permanent hearing loss. I set mom up with a Classic, and she started pumping several times a day. Within a few weeks, she was able to get a total of 6-8 oz. most days. She gave the 6-8 oz. to the toddler in a cup. Getting just that one cup of breastmilk each day allowed the toddler to go a full three months without an ear infection. Unfortunately, at that point, mom got extremely ill and lost her milk supply. She just wasn't emotionally up to trying to rebuild it again. But since that time, they have been taking baby to a pediatric chiropractor and baby has been much healthier (not quite as healthy as when getting the breastmilk, but still much better than before mom relactated). So, at least in this case, only 6 oz./day was needed to see fantastic improvement in toddler health.
