Her baby is 12 weeks old and everything has been going well up to this point Basically the baby is resisting being breastfed except for the first morning breastfeeding- otherwise she cries, stiffens Mom has started giving a bottle of formula each day, since the baby will go up to 6 hours without nursing<< When you say everything is going well, I assume you mean that the baby has been gaining weight well? If so AND the baby has continued this pattern - why are we to be concerned about a 6 hr span of "refusal"? The issue of the baby's unhappiness needs to be addressed but a bottle of formula because a 3 mth old hasn't fed in 6 hrs is inappropriate. This baby should be observed at the breast .-If this isn't possible, further discussion should include ?? regarding feeding adequacy, changes in milk flow-(contentement with the early morning feed suggests more available milk)if this is the issue compression or pumping after feeds may help to increase flow/supply etc. Lynn Shea Rn,Bsn,Ibclc Franklin,Massachusetts *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
