"Raw Goats Milk - 1 gallon 1/2 tsp. Blackstrap Mollasses 1 Capsule of Folic Acid ( 800 mcg.) 1 Capsule of Vitamin E ( 100 IU) 1/16 tsp. Vit. C * To the first and last bottle of the day add 5 gtts. of flaxseed oil = and 5 gtts. of cod liver oil." The above recipe, if it is complete, would be dangerous for a young baby, because it lacks sufficient water. When I was using goat formula in the Lact-Aid, with my adopted baby, Joseph, I started with 24 ounces of water to 32 ounces of whole goat milk, and gradually reduced the water content over the first year. I believe I was down to 12 ounces of water to a quart of milk by six months. By a year old, I was using the goat milk full strength, but still nursing and he was also getting a little apple juice and water by cup. I added more powdered lactose to the formula when I was adding more water, and added the same amount of folic acid per quart, regardless of the water content. I based this on some information I had from Meyenberg (this was 10 years ago, but I am sure you can get more information from their website than what I found back then), tables comparing ingredients in goat and cow's milk, as well as standard commercial formulas, and recipes for bringing up a baby "by hand", from old medical books. I felt like there was more room for error, because Joseph was getting 12-16 ounces of breast milk per day, too (which was all I could coax my body to produce), but I also kept a close eye on his urine. It is SUCH a contradiction to hear someone talk about being health conscious, and into natural foods, and then advocate feeding a baby something besides human milk, when they have the option. My MIL swore by a chiropractor who was supposedly "all-knowing" about health and nutrition. He lost alot of credibility, to me, when I learned that his two month old baby was totally fed on a soy formula. He told me it was superior, because all of the ingredients were vegan, but I wasn't impressed! http://www.meyenberg.com/ _________________________________________________________________ Use custom emotions -- try MSN Messenger 6.0! http://www.msnmessenger-download.com/tracking/reach_emoticon *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
