I've been contacted by the mother of a child, just adopted from overseas with a cleft palate. The child is 12 months old and had been weaned from the bottle but her mother really wishes to bottle feed her (to be able to provide nurturing, very strongly recommended by adoption experts). They have some teats suppose to be for feeding cleft babies but it is not working very well. The mother thinks that what she needs is a teat that is broad but short but is really not sure what to do. The feeding expert at the local hospital exhibited a very negative attitude towards adoption and was no help at all so the mum is on her own. Does anyone in Australia have suggestions for where she might be able to get teats that might make this easier or suggestions for bottlefeeding an older baby with cleft palate This is a little bit off topic (the mother's first adopted child did breastfeed on her own initiative so maybe it's not far off) so please reply to me privately.
