I would like to add my congratulations and grateful thanks to La Leche League and Cynthia Good Mojab for their wonderful statement on Vitamin D and breastfeeding. This is *exactly* the kind of sane, rational, well-thought-out interpretation of the science and the controversy that we, who support breastfeeding mothers and babies, can use to best effect. Cynthia, thank you for your two years' hard work in tracking down and meticulously compiling the information on this now-controversial subject, so that it was ready and waiting, when we needed it. La Leche League, thank you for lending your influential and international voice to produce a statement which adopts a rational approach towards the possibility of unnecessary medical intervention for breastfed babies. Like your statement on HIV and breastfeeding, this sends a powerful message about the need to first, do no harm, in the absence of very clear, evidence-based research. This timely statement also demonstrates LLL's willingness accept an ethical responsibility to speak up promptly and with integrity on behalf of babies as the need arises - an obligation which other organizations appear, inexplicably, to be unwilling to accept. Bravo! And thank you!
