Changing the World one Breastfed baby at a time! For those of you wondering about the "RLC" after your names in your pass letter, here is a bit of background. There will be more information posted soon on the IBLCE website, and it will also appear in the Spring 2003 issue of the IBCLICK. An IBCLC residing in Louisiana, USA succeeded in getting a bill passed in her state legislature in June, 1999, which enacted a Registry of IBCLCs. She intends this legislation to be a step toward mandated coverage of lactation services by health insurance companies. "Registration" is a term which predates "certification" by many decades, and is more easily recognized by people unfamiliar with credentialing. This registry will be updated annually following the publishing of the exam results. Because of the success of the program in Louisiana, the IBLCE Board of Directors passed a motion in August, 1999 that all IBCLCs may state that they are registered with IBLCE. Using the designation "RLC" is optional. IBCLC is your professional credential. Barbara Ash, MA, IBCLC Assistant Executive Director IBLCE [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] Yahoo!
