Hello all; Some of you may remember me; I am not a professional but have occasion to run into various breastfeeding situations from time to time and so have posted to this list a few times before. I have noticed that various parenting books have been reviewed here, especially as they relate to breastfeeding issues. I have great concern with a "new" parenting and classroom management philopsophy that is being introduced in my kids' school, called "Love and Logic," by Jim Fay and Foster Cline. I find this approach very offensive, even though it perports to be one couched in "empathy". I have recetnly learned that they have published a book called "Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood" but I have not seen it yet. I think if I could I would be able to find out more of what the authors' underlying views of children are. I know one thing they advised in their book "Parenting with Love and Logic" to do with a child that wakes you up in the night, is to hire a babysitter and tell the child that since he keeps waking them up at night, they are going to a motel so they can get a good night's sleep....and then tells the babysitter to tell the child that she doesn't know how to take care of night time needs so he can't wake her up either. This is supposed to "teach" the child not to bother the parents at night. This is just one of several horrifying snipets I could give, but I am wondering if anyone out there would know of critiques that have been offered to this method. I am also interested in whether anyone has read the book about infancy. I know they state that their "techniques" can be used starting at 8-9 months, which to me is a scary thought. Thanks so much for any info you can give to me. Please email me privately if you can help with this, to [log in to unmask] Thanks, and peace to all.
