The scottish study intimated that this could be part of the normal
process of the cord drying and falling off and that nothing needed to be
done.  C'mon someone, hook me up with the study:)   I'm short on
computer time right now.  It was on my old harddrive.  DH installed
Linux over everything in one very bad experiment....so I've got nothing
from the past, oh, six yrs.  My bad for not backing everything up.
