The current issue has an article in it entitled, "Milk it! A day in the Life
of a Lactation Consultant." This article marginalizes, mocks and completely
undermines what we do. The author is a woman who gave birth to twins and
decided not to nurse them and is clearly working out her guilt (she states
within the opening paragraphs, "I...wanted my body to myself as soon as they
were out of me, thankyouverymuch."). The women she followed for a few days
are colleagues of mine and are completely mis-represented and mis-quoted. My
colleague will no doubt get in touch with the necessary organizational
advocates, but I encourage all of you to somehow get ahold of this article
(try not to purchase the magazine!) and write to the editor.
