Hi all,
I read something on the web today while looking for something on Maternal
PKU and was hoping someone would try and explain it to me.
BREASTFEEDING: If you want to breastfeed you need to stay on the low
phenylalanine diet and keep your blood levels down between 2 and 6. If your
child does have PKU then the child's chances of keeping their levels down
are greater if they are breastfed. If your child does not have PKU and you
want to breastfeed I recommend you consult your dietitian. You need to ask
them if you should breastfeed a child who does not have PKU.
Thanks
