Peg, this is a travesty when we can't say the truth for fear of making someone feel guilty. Fist of all, we cannot MAKE someone feel guilty. They either do or they don't, and it is generated internally by preexisting beliefs. It is unbelievable to me that the truth cannot be told in order to preserve other people's ignorance, and their pipe dream that formula is anywhere NEAR as good as formula. Do we protect patients from the knowledge that smoking is dangerous? No. Do we hesitate to use guilt as a motivator for car seat use.? No. Breastfeeding is a warped little category all its own, ..and those who want to protect their patients from the truth, and from the health that can be promoted via breastfeeding, is protecting their own little feeble house of cards from toppling. (ie their own *&( about breastfeeding and whether they did, or didn't, or bla bla bla.. Our archives have so much on guilt. I will ressurect some of the classics. Kathleen Off my soapbox.
