Today while going through some of my son's first reader books, I came across
a nice little book on polar bears (one word per page). The second page was a
cute picture of two polar bear cubs and mom. The caption read "nursing." My
5 year old son was delighted and said, "Look mommy they are getting their
milk."

Sesame Street doesn't irk me as much as those insipid commercials during
children's TV for "Baby Bottle Pops" (those bottle nipple shaped candies that
you dip into a sugary powder and slurp-eek). Yes, I'm a bit disappointed
with Sesame Street, but I acutely remember this was the first children's
program in the US that actually acknowledged that children came from
different backgrounds and didn't all look like Dick and Jane.

Guess we just need to work on more "product placement" with breastfeeding
dyads in all sorts of venues.
