Hello everyone; I have just read the posts from the archives, but none of the posts talk about being pregnant and nursing a toddler with herpes. Let me explain. This mom is 36 weeks pregnant and has a 2.5 year old toddler that nurses. Yesterday the toddler was diagnosed with herpes and started on acyclovir. The lesions are not in his mouth but are on his back, some fingers and forehead-cheek area of his face. The mother has no signs of herpes and has never experienced herpes lesions before, that she is aware of. The mother is concerned about the incubation period. How long would it take for the mom to get herpes lesions if it were to happen? Once the toddler's lesions have crusted over, is there any chance then of the mom developing lesions? She is concerned that she may develop the lesions on her nipples/breasts and perhaps transfer the virus to her newborn. I read her the info from Ruth Lawrence about bf and herpes. She is continuing to nurse her toddler at this point and is being very careful with hand washing. The toddler's lesions are already beginning to heal after one day on the acyclovir. Thank you for your help.
