It could be that she's seeing "smile growth":  The baby is born at a certain
weight, loses weight, then starts to gain.  Graphed, it looks like a smile.
Using just one point on the left side of the graph and one point on the
right side, it may look as if the baby has gained very little, or has even
lost, when in fact he's begun gaining like gangbusters from a low point that
was never documented.  Maybe she just needs another point on the graph, to
give her a clear sense of how that right-hand side of the smile is doing.
