When I was about to have my first I read ''Spritual Midwifery'' (The Farm, typically flower power stuff) and that's when I first learned that nipple manipulation and/or nursing could facilitate contractions and a faster labor. They also recommend gentle lovemaking during labor. It wasn't untill my last (5th) childs' birth that I practiced nursing during labor myself, but with me the raction was not that intense as you describe it. BTW. I had 5 unmedicated births (1 at home, 4 in hospital), just had small epiosotomies with 2 or 3 and nursing my baby while the doctor was restoring what he just opened was helping me get through it, so needed less topical pitocin for painkilling. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gonneke van Veldhuizen, IBCLC MOM, LLLL, primary schoolteacher Hiilensberg, Germany *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
