I have worked a lot with a mom whose baby was born with a diaphragmatic
hernia. He is now 10 months old and doing beautifully. Mom is still
pumping some breastmilk for him. He has never been able to very well at
breast and also has a hard time swallowing just liquid, it needs to be
thickened some. And there doesn't seem to be anything that can used to
thicken breastmilk. She's even been in contact with Susan Boeckel who
presented at ILCA last year on GI reflux for ideas.

Anyway, if you ever come into contact with a mom prenatally who is
carrying a baby with this problem, my mom would be glad to talk to and
counsel her. Just let me know.

Warmly,
Pat Bucknell, IBCLC
