Hi, folks. I personally do not have lots of experience with colic, but as I read these last posts by R. Coats, the thought came to my mind that there IS a major difference between breastfed babies with colic and AIM-fed babies with colic. This difference lay in the management of this condition and the ability to solve it. To clarify, we all know that b/fing is extremely comforting and allows a nursing mom the opportunity to soothe a crying infant, and to bond with her high-need child; but also, b/fing a colicy baby offers the mother and her healthcare providers a wonderful opportunity to actually do the detective work required in order to try and discover what may be causing the colic. It seems to me that AIM-feeding is all a bunch of guess work b/c one doesn't really know exactly what is in any given formula and/or what baby may be reacting to - switching formula is nothing more than a stab in the dark. But b/fing along with mother's instinct, observation of her baby, elimiation diets, family history, etc. seem to offer a much better framework with which to relieve an infant's colic. Just some thoughts.
